Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) made a gold clean sweep in all three grades of the 400m long course at the 2024 National Schools Swimming Age Group Championships yesterday.

MBHS swimming coach Samuel Yalimaiwai said winning the boys’ 13-14, 15-16 and 17-19 grades was a determined one as they had only been leading for the past two days with just a silver medal ahead of the other schools.

“We were in the lead by only one silver, so I told the boys this morning that they really needed to pick up the pace,” Yalimaiwai said.

“It’s been tough, especially on the first day.

“This win was a big boost for the boys. They understood the assignment and bumped up the medal tallies.

“Even though our preparations started really late this year, especially having to train for only three weeks during the school holidays because some of them took part in the Fiji Finals, the boys managed to use their experience as club swimmers to step up and perform.”
