Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has appointed former Fiji 7s rep Rovereto Nayacalevu as their new chief executive officer.

This was confirmed by FRU interim chairman Peter Mazey during a workshop at the Rugby House in Suva yesterday.

“This is probably the first positive thing we’ve had for a while as FRU hasn’t had a CEO since John O’Connor at the beginning of last year, so we are happy to have finally selected one,” Mazey said.

Nayacalevu is also the former acting permanent secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry and permanent secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“It is about time we selected a CEO because FRU is a corporation, its got to operate properly, so having someone with experience in both rugby and business take up the position is great.”

A press release from FRU stated Nayacalevu had the desired experience and qualifications, fitting their selection criteria from the rugby field to the business world.

“Nayacalevu has held various leadership roles in the commercial sector across Fiji and the Pacific, particularly in the Solomon Islands and Samoa.

“Nayacalevu holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific,” the statement read.

“His deep connection to rugby, combined with his professional qualifications and leadership experience, positions him uniquely to lead Fiji rugby into a promising future.”

Nayacalevu takes over from former FRU administrator Simione Valenitabua and starts at his new post next week.
