THE chief executive of QBE Insurance (Fiji) Ltd and former Insurance Council of Fiji chairman Matthew Kearns spent his last day at his office in Suva yesterday.
Mr Kearns treasured his moments with his staff members for the past three years and said that it had been a very enjoyable journey.
He said he was leaving to take a position for QBE in Papua New Guinea as a general manager.
“The achievements I see for myself as a CEO of QBE has become much more customers focused and we are very aware of what our customers are looking for,” he said.
He said he faced challenges during his first year in the country in 2012 where two of their clients suffered from a major fire in April and November followed by Cyclone Evan.
He said he was proud of the achievements made by the QBE team during his term as he attributed the success of the company to teamwork.
“My success is based around my staff and I won’t look good without them. I don’t take glory and success because it is a team effort.”
He said he had some fantastic memories of Fiji where he shared his experiences with their clients and also the staff members.
“I have fond memories of sharing some vegetable curry with one of our major clients,” Mr Kearns said.
He said engaging with the Fijian people was something he would treasure when his family leaves Fiji.
