THE Government is encouraging landowners including women and young iTaukei youths to venture into sugarcane farming.
Sugar Minister Charan Jeath Singh said the sugar sector was becoming favourable with the increase in the world’s sugar price.
“There is no need to struggle in searching sugarcane markets as the market is already established,” Mr Singh said.
“The sugar price is currently quite favourable and likely to remain positive in future years as we see the global trends.
“Therefore, I also encourage our landowners to take this opportunity to venture into cane farming and make use of their land for income generation.
“And importantly, we are ready to provide assistance to them through our grant programs to become cane farmers of tomorrow.”
