Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Viliame Gavoka, who was the chief guest on the second day of the Fiji National University graduation, lauded the achievements of graduates as a testament to resilience and determination, urging them to carry these qualities forward into their future endeavours.
“Today’s graduation is the beginning of the next step in your journey. The journey ahead may have its challenges, but remember the resilience and determination that brought you this far,” he said.
With a total of 442 graduates honoured, Mr Gavoka highlighted the diverse talents and skills represented, including 88 from the College of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (CAFF) and 354 from the College of Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Studies (CBHTS).
Addressing the CAFF graduates, he emphasised the importance of their knowledge and skills in contributing to the national economy, particularly in sectors vital for boosting the export market.
“CAFF graduates, your knowledge and skills will be much needed in the national economy as the Coalition Government invests in these three much-needed areas to boost our export market. Through your studies and practical experience, you have gained knowledge to promote sustainable practices, manage resources responsibly, and contribute to a more resilient future. We look forward to your innovations in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry.”
Turning to the CBHTS graduates, he underscored the significance of their business acumen and strategic management skills in driving economic growth.
“As CBHTS graduates, your much-needed skills and understanding of business intricacies, market dynamics, and strategic management have equipped you to meet the demands of the corporate world. Our economy will be boosted when you make innovative and dynamic contributions for the betterment of our beloved Fiji. Remember, the skills you’ve acquired are powerful tools, use them collectively to create a brighter future for Fiji.”
Mr Gavoka urged all stakeholders to continue supporting lifelong learning and growth, emphasising the role of education in fostering economic competitiveness and societal progress.
