National airport moves into electric vehicles

Fiji Airports will soon procure the first batch of electric vehicles as part of its commitment to transition into a sustainable, low carbon functioning airport.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations held in Nadi on Friday night.

He added that a solar farm project at the Nadi International Airport was also in the pipeline for Fiji Airports.

“I also anticipate the upcoming solar farm project at the Nadi International Airport and the procurement of the first batch of electric vehicles to be around very soon,” he said.

Mr Rabuka said these projects were in line with the national energy policy and the global aviation industry goal for net zero by 2050.

“I also congratulate you on the level three optimisation accreditation for the Nadi International Airport, in recognition of your efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

“You remain a key player to our collective goal of rebuilding our beloved Fiji.”

Mr Rabuka also acknowledged the board of directors, the management and the past and present staff for their hard work and commitment over the last 25 years.
