A try to winger Inoke Kana and a successful conversion by fullback Emori Tadulala in the dying seconds saw Tailevu secure a much-needed 22-17 win over Nadi in round seven of the Skipper Cup competition yesterday.
Trailing 15-17 in the last five minutes of the match at Ratu Cakobau Park, Kana collected a cross kick from flyhalf Marika Baleinaloto to dive in the left corner of the field just before the sound of the final hooter.
Tailevu led 10-7 at the break.
Head coach Samisoni Baiketoga said he couldn’t be prouder of the effort his side put into yesterday’s match, which could see the side book a spot in the quarterfinals.
“I’m very happy with the boys, even though they were losing in the final minutes of the game they were able to get their act together and score to secure the win,” he said.
Baikeitoga said the loud cheers from their supporters in the stands played a role in their sweet victory on their home turf.
“To all our fans who came out in numbers, we thank you for coming out here to support the boys.”
He said while the victory was sweet, there were still a few more things the side needed to work on before their next match against Macuata.
