UNITY Fiji is moving towards challenging and removing the 2013 Constitution in a court of law.
Party leader Savenaca Narube said the 2013 Constitution was imposed and not passed by any Parliament.
The party has appointed a team to plan, spearhead and coordinate this national call for action.
Mr Narube said his party is moving towards challenging and removing the 2013 Constitution in a court of law.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Mr Narube said Unity Fiji intended to deliver on its promise to remove the “imposed” Constitution.
“The 2013 Constitution has not been passed by any Parliament,” he said.
“The people of Fiji did not participate whatsoever in the preparation of the 2013 Constitution, this is a fundamental mistake that must be corrected.
“If the Constitution is for the people, the people should approve the Constitution through Parliament.
“In our assessment, the court is the only legal way to remove the barriers that the 2013 Constitution unilaterally imposes on our national unity, peace and prosperity.”
Mr Narube said the party had appointed a Fiji Constitution Freedom Team (FCFT) to plan, spearhead and coordinate this national call for action.
The FCTF team will be led by former Commissioner Central Inoke Devo, party general secretary Mosese Bakaniceva and legal counsel Litiana Bulivou.
“Consultations will be a central part of this venture; I have asked the team to put together a plan for these consultations.
“We intend to consult the people, the Government, civil societies, associations, faith-based organisations and legal experts.
“We also plan to roll out an awareness program to the people.”
Mr Narube said the party had also put together a legal team to work on the plan that would take 18 months.
