THERE are 50 informal settlements within the Nasinu municipal region. Nasinu Town Council acting CEO Imran Khan highlighted this in submissions to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
“And in these 50 informal settlements as per the 2017 census, there are about 27,000 to 28,000 people living in 14,000 households,” Mr Khan said.
“The basic services we provide to them is solid waste management because the way they are encompassed within the municipal rentable properties, we have to provide this service to look after the health of the ratepayers.”
Mr Khan said this was the only service they were providing to the informal settlements in their municipality.
