THE family of a man who was found dead on March 10 is wanting to know why police isn’t releasing his body.

Shamal Sami was on the run from March 3 after seriously assaulting his brother who remains in hospital.

His sister, Lorine Mani, said she had been enquiring with police but received no answers as to when his body would be released.

“When the body was found on 10th March he was recognisable by about 50 to 80 people, but unfortunately during the post-mortem on March 12th he was unrecognisable,” claims Ms Mani.

“I am so distressed after this incident and there is no cooperation from the police force.

“They (police) have asked us to wait for a week and now telling to wait for another three weeks.

“Is this going to hold us for couple of months. As we family we want to proceed with our final ritual as per our religion.

“We are really looking forward for some clear advise from police. We as a family are really depressed and stressed as no clear advice is given to the family.”

Questions sent to police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro yesterday remained unanswered.
