STARLINK Satellite Broadband Internet Services has not been activated in Fiji yet, says the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji.

In a statement, the authority said they would notify the public once service activation and launch schedules are provided by Starlink.

“Importation of Starlink kits into Fiji will be assumed to be in anticipation of the forthcoming availability of services via Starlink (Fiji) Pte Ltd,” the statement read.

“Additionally, maritime and aeronautical usage through authorised imported kits is permitted via Starlink’s Earth Station in Motion (ESM) service provisions.

“It is important to note that there are currently no authorised or recognised third parties offering Starlink Satellite Broadband Internet services in Fiji.”

During the launch earlier this year, Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs and Communications Manoa Kamikamica said the Government had ruled out the need to call for “geo-fencing” or “geo-locking” satellite services such as Low Earth Orbit Broadband Internet provider Starlink.

He said the company’s licensing in November last year requested that it had a presence in Fiji, meaning it would open an office here, which so far has not happened.
