Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh will lead a delegation to Switzerland in June this year for the 112th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).
This was determined during a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday this week.
A Government statement outlined that the tripartite delegation comprised of individuals representing Government, employers, and workers.
“As a member State, Fiji is obliged under the ILO Constitution to send a tripartite delegation to participate in the annual ILC,” the statement read.
“The delegation will update the ILO on the progress made by the Government in ensuring better employment relations post-pandemic and assistance provided to workers and employers.”
Mr Singh said this was an opportunity to present to ILO the progress Fiji had made since the last conference.
“We had made some commitments to the Director General in the conference itself,” he said.
“We have progressed substantively in that direction, and we are going to report on that. We are going to ensure that the tripartite partners are all there to express their views freely.”
Apart from the minister, the delegation will comprise his permanent secretary, a senior officer from the ministry, Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation CEO Jonetani Tonawai, Fiji Trade Union Congress national secretary Felix Anthony, and designated representatives from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Fiji to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
