Residents of Waidamudamu settlement in Nausori are worried about the high level of floodwaters this year.

Revoni Baledawa, who has been a resident of the settlement for about 10 years, said the most recent flood was the highest experienced so far.

“At about 8pm last night the water started rising and by 10pm our kitchen was underwater,” he said.

He said the water inundated homes on the ground and occupants sought shelter in homes on piles.

“We know that this area is flood-prone so a lot of us built our houses high, but this is the first time that a flood has gotten this high.”

Mr Baledawa was thankful he did not lose any household items and said he was praying the weather would clear soon.
