Marist rugby club president Lawrence Tikaram believes the Super Rugby Pacific double header in Lautoka will not affect the 48th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament set to kick off today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The final of the tournament will be held on Saturday.

Tikaram said this was a reality they had to face.

“The double header will always be there, it will fall on Fiji’s sevens season and it is something we just need to manage.”

He said it would depend on the fans themselves on which event they would want to be part of.

“Of course if you’re patriotic about your 7s team, you will come down to show your support. You’ll show support to not only the 7s boys but also to the new clubs that have made it this far.”

The Marist 7s also serves as a selection ground for Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau.

He is expected to name his team to the Hong Kong 7s after the final on Saturday.
