Taking on a student leaders role is embarking on a journey that is both rewarding and challenging.
The Republic of Fiji Military Force commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai reminded prefects of Nadroga Arya College of this when he officiated at their investiture ceremony recently.
“The title of school prefect brings with it a great deal of responsibility and the expectation to uphold the highest standard of conduct and integrity,” Maj-Gen Kalouniwai said.
“It’s important to recognise that being a leader is not an easy task, especially at a young age.
“The role of a school prefect requires strength, resilience, empathy and the ability to make tough decisions.”
Maj-Gen Kalouniwai said the position demand maturity and a willingness to serve fellow students with compassion and fairness.
He then reminded prefects that the weight of responsibility can feel overwhelming and there might be moments when they question their capability to lead effectively and it was rather important to recognise that their journey as student leaders was not meant to be easy.
“It is precisely through facing and overcoming challenges that you will grow into the empathetic leader your school community needs.
“Remember that true leadership is not about seeking recognition or popularity, but rather about serving others, supporting your peers and striving for the betterment of the school environment as a whole.
“While the road ahead may present obstacles and uncertainties, know that you do not walk this path alone.”
