Despite winning their opening match against the Reds in the Super W competition on Saturday, Rooster Chicken Fijian Women’s Drua head coach Moses Rauluni said his side had missed out on a lot of scoring opportunities which could have given them a comfortable win.
The Fijian Drua side defeated the Reds 32-21 to kickstart their Super W campaign on high as they look to defend their title as defending champions for the third consecutive year.
“We could have done better but we missed out on a lot of scoring opportunities,” the former Flying Fijian said.
However, he said the match had pointed out areas his side needed to work on before they played their first home game against the Waratahs this weekend at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
“We have a massive game this weekend and our match against the Reds allowed us to see areas we need to work on before playing at home.”
While he believes their defence against the Reds was up to par, there were a few times their tackles were quite high.
“Our defence held up well but our body tackling was a bit too high at times so we will be working on that this week.”
He praised his side for executing their set pieces as expected, which provided the side scoring opportunities throughout the match.
“Very happy with the set pieces and our lineouts. There were a few times when I was a bit worried but our scrums were solid, and pressed the Reds’ scrum which have been solid for the past couple of years.
“The girls showed a lot of guts and effort which I was happy to see. Even though we made a few mistakes, we managed to keep the Reds out in crucial moments.”
