The condition of facilities at the Labasa Fire Station have come under public scrutiny.

These include the timber work showing signs of weathering in the washroom area and a torn window screen in the toilet.

National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane said only minor renovations were undertaken at the fire station last year.

“In terms of the toilet and bathroom, there needs to be a lot of work done,” Mr Sowane said.

He said Labasa was on their list of priorities that needed renovation.

“Currently, a major renovation is underway in Levuka,” he said.

“Once the renovations in Levuka are completed, we will prioritise upgrading facilities at other stations, including Labasa.”

Mr Sowane said it was important to keep the station up to standard because it is the headquarters of the authority in the Northern Division.
