Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh has assured Parliament the ministry has achieved social justice through decent work and sustainable employment for all.
Mr Singh said in Parliament the Government had allowed the ministry to ably conduct a comprehensive review of the Employment Relations Act after Fiji was cited at the international forum of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for failing to comply with ILO Convention C144 on Tripartite Consultation under the previous administration.
“The review is progressing very well and we have inputs from our tripartite partners through consultative engagement via the Employment Relations Advisory Board subcommittees,” Mr Singh said.
He said that as part of the holistic review, the ministry was reviewing the National Minimum Wage and the 10 Sectoral Wages Regulations, a process which would involve the sectoral Wages Council, which has been appointed, and the Finance Ministry.
“The 2024-2025 budget announcements in a little over three months will also reveal the outcome of the review of the minimum wage,” Mr Singh said.
“It is worth noting that the formal wages have increased by 10 to 12 per cent.”
