The High Court in Lautoka has jailed a man for 15 years and four months for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2020.
The incident took place after a drinking party in Sigatoka.
“You took advantage of the complainant’s vulnerability, helplessness, and naivety.
You have exposed the innocent mind of a child to sexual activity at a tender age, and thereby robbed the complainant of her innocence,” said Justice Riyaz Hamza.
“The frequent prevalence of the offence of rape in our society today, especially cases of child rape.
Your conduct was intentional and deliberate.
“You were well aware that the complainant was highly intoxicated at the time.
You used this opportunity to sexually exploit the complainant and to satisfy your carnal desires.
“By your actions, you inflicted actual violence on the complainant thereby causing her severe pain and physical injuries.”
“In spite of the complainant trying to resist, you had held on to her and thrown her towards the ground from the taxi.
When she was trying to stand up you had struck her with a big stick on the right side of her head.
This made the complainant unconscious.”
The man will not be eligible for parole until he has served 12 years and four months.
