Minister for Health Dr Atonio Lalabalavu says the ministry has introduced mSupply through which health centres can access medicines online.

He said it would also allow health centres to view stocks that were available.

The development comes after concerns were raised over the shortage of medicines at health centres on Taveuni.

Vuna district representative Laisiasa Tuimouta said Vuna’s two health centres often run out of medicinal supplies.

Mr Tuimouta said no pharmacy existed at Naqara from where members of the public could buy medicines.

“When there’s a shortage of medicine, some people resort to herbal medicines while others send their prescriptions to family members in Savusavu and Labasa to buy and drop it off with people travelling to Taveuni the next day.”

Dr Lalabalavu said the shortage of medical supplies was a common issue faced by rural health centres.

He said the ministry would install internet connection in rural health centres so they could access mSupply.
