Students of Vunamoli Village in Nadi will no longer miss classes after the commissioning of a new foot crossing bridge.
Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Jovesa Vocea commissioned the $69,000 project funded by the ministry and the UNDP.
The bridge brought relief to students who in the past would risk their lives crossing a temporary walkway during the rainy season and not being able to attend classes because of the rise in water level.
Mr Vocea said the new bridge was long overdue.
“You have been requesting for a new bridge for a long time,” he said. “The bridge will make it easier for you to get your market produce to town.
“And students would be able to go to school.” Mr Vocea said the bridge brought a ray of hope to the villagers because of accessibility issues.
“It will help in your financial growth in the village. “We also hope you will look after it well. We will also be giving a certificate to the turaganikoro.
“The bridge is now yours and we request a committee to look after the new foot crossing so that it lasts a lifetime.”
