Nadi staged a second half route to clinch a 37-22 win in a bruising ANZ Marama Championship encounter against Nasinu at Buckhurst Park in Laucala Bay, Suva.

While the Westerners struggled to find their feat in the first half, head coach Ilaitia Momo was reading their opponents and formulating a plan that eventually led to their success.

Nasinu scored three quick tries in the first half, manipulating Nadi’s scrambling defense with their witty backline running the show.

Tables turned in the second spell with Nadi deploying their forwards and the crafty hands of inside centre Lusi Sotia setting up three of their tries.

“In the first half I guess the girls were trying to adapt and settle down, we gave away too many penalties in the process which allowed our opponents to penetrate and score,” coach Momo explained.

“We gauged our performance and established that our forwards are our strength as we had the size advantage, so they took charge, drawing in defenders before our backs went to work deep withing Nasinu’s territory and that paid off for us.

“At the break, I told them to work within the game plan established, play to our strengths and minimize unnecessary penalties.”

The match took a turn when two players were given the marching orders following an ugly scuffle. Both teams had to play the remainder of the match with 14 players.

“Our discipline is something we will work on from this week, we cooped a red card, we will sit, talk about the incident and be better from here,” Momo added.
