Housing is one of the biggest problems faced by many people living in urban areas, says Public Rental Board (PRB) general manager Timoci Naleba.

“There are many couples who are coming to us looking for a house,” Mr Naleba said.

“They have been looking for houses which they can afford, and they’ve been renting for a long time.

“Some have rented for more than 20 years.”

Mr Naleba said the “rent to own” initiative would improve people’s lives.

“So, people who have been renting for long are the ones we think would be able to benefit from this concept.

“It’s a good initiative that might improve their way of life.

They will be able to own a property through this initiative.

“Because of the lack of stock that we have, we haven’t really pushed on this particular policy but, yes, the Government is coming through to have this policy.”

The PRB board last week approved the policy which would be presented to the Minister for Housing soon.
