A UN Job Specific Training workshop, held at the Nakasi Police Station training room, marked the beginning of an intensive program aimed at equipping Fiji police with enhanced skills for peacekeeping duties in UN missions.
Ten international trainers are preparing for the delivery of job specific topics, including mentoring, monitoring and advising community-oriented policing and capacity-building and development.
The course, hosted by the Fiji Police Force, is funded and supported by the US Government in collaboration with the Australian Federal Police.
Several Fiji police officers, including ASP Mohammed Yunus Hanif, Inspector George Mar and A/IP Rakeshawar Singh, are UN certified instructors, having received their certification during the JST conducted in Fiji last year; ASP Sanjay Sen and ASP Reshmi Singh, experienced FPF trainers with the UN, also contribute to the program.
In his opening remarks, Fiji police Director of International Relations SSP Ulaiasi Ravula, welcomed the international trainers and emphasised Fiji’s experience in peacekeeping, highlighting the country’s dedication to supporting its neighbouring Pacific Islands in representing themselves in UN peacekeeping missions.
