The Suva Volleyball Association (SVA) has filed in a formal complaint with the Fiji Volleyball Federation (FVF) regarding an incident that allegedly transpired during the HBK Vulaca Championships over the weekend.
According to Suva Volleyball, following the semifinal match between Suva Blues men’s and Raiwai 1, a senior player from the Raiwai allegedly assaulted a Suva Blues player.
“The Suva Volleyball Board strongly condemns the alleged assault and are urging the federation to act swiftly and decisively in accordance with its protection policies and code of conduct,” SVA stated.
“The safety and wellbeing of all players, officials, and spectators during sanctioned tournaments are of paramount importance. Therefore, we emphasize the need for the federation to uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of violence and to ensure that all individuals involved in volleyball activities are protected,” SVA added.
SVA confirmed it had not lodged an official complaint regarding the incident with the Fiji Police Force.
“It is noteworthy that the alleged perpetrator is identified as an officer of the law, adding a concerning dimension to this incident.
Suva Volleyball Association places the highest priority on the safety of its players and officials, and incidents of violence, regardless of the individual’s background, must not be tolerated,” SVA reiterated.
