Kototuraga Girl Guides camp

The Koroturaga Girl Guides Province Camp was held at Lomary Primary School in Serua. In attendance were 100 girl guides from around Suva, Nasinu, Lami and Serua. The girls were able to highlight issues on Sustainable Development Goal No: 13 Climate Action during the three-day camp.

Ratu Nacagilevu Memorial School and Namalata Central School in Kadavu has new classroom all thanks to the Japanese Government through its Embassy in Suva. The classroom blocks were officially opened by the Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro. The old classrooms were damaged during Tropical Cyclone Harold in 2020.

After a lapse of four years, 350 students of St Vincent College in Natovi took part in a cadet passing-out parade. The Home Affairs and Immigration Minister, Pio Tikoduadua who is a former student of the school was the chief guest at the event.

Students of Ratu Emeri Catholic School Kindergarten in Kubulau, Bua had their Early Childhood Education week where students participated in activities organised by their teachers. The students got a chance to dress up in different characters and in traditional attire to mark the special week.

Year 4 students of Navolau District School in Ra had to opportunity to meet the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere during their visit to the State House. The students during their visit were accompanied by their teachers and parents.

The message of love, tolerance and respect was shared to students at the Natabua High School cadet passing-out parade in Lautoka. Titfanue Howard who was the school head boy took home the Baton of Honour award for the 2023 school parade.

Students of Navesi Kindergarten in Delainavesi visited the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the State House. The President encouraged the students to never limit their aspiration of the professions they wish to join when they get older and to always believe in their dreams.

A project worth $3 million was opened at Queen Victoria School. The project which was funded by the Indonesian Government consisted of sixteen new classrooms. The new classroom block replaced the old buildings destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.

For six weeks, students from around Serua Province participated in school rugby competitions as part of the Kaji Rugby buildup. The competitions were to help develop the children’s rugby skills and help them prepare for the national rugby stage.

More than 400 students of Pundit Shreedhar Maharaj College participated in the school passing-out parade. The parade was led by the school head boy, 18-year-old Shanil Nand. The cadet corps included Year 9 to Year 13 students. They had trained for five weeks for the parade.

Students from Lavena, Bouma, Qeleni and Naselesele in Taveuni were treated to free dental checks all thanks to a team of dentists from New Zealand who were visiting schools on the island. The team was in partnership with the Taveuni Rotary Club. n Pacific Harbour Multicultural School was the first school within the Navua to Pacific Harbour corridor that signed up for the Smash Down Barriers and Bounce it Back Program with the Fiji Table Tennis Association last year. The program allows students to learn more about the sport and helps with personal development.

In just eight days students of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School learned the school’s military cadet drill for their annual cadet passing-out parade. Students in that short period focused their attention on discipline, teamwork, leadership and commitment. After four years, the students took up military training once again, with many having to learn the basics of foot drills from scratch in muddy and rainy conditions. The event was held at Albert Park in Suva.

Drasa Avenue School in Lautoka becomes the Fiji Mathematics Association National Finals overall champion. The Drasa Avenue School mathematic team demonstrated dedication, hard work and resilience to secure the title for the primary competition. The last competition was held back in 2019 due to COVID-19.

Students from Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School in Lautoka visited the Fiji Times. More than 100 students were part of a two-day field trip to the Capital City. The students also got a chance to visit the State House, the Prime Minister’s Office, Parliament, the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation studio, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Queen Elizabeth Barracks and the Fiji Museum.

Nausori Primary School celebrated its 75th anniversary. The school was established in 1948 and it has been a reflection of Fiji’s rich cultural diversity over the years. From its early days as Nausori Kindergarten, the school evolved to be Nausori European School and then Nausori Primary School. It has not only been a centre of learning but has also been a beacon of unity for many who attended it.

Queen Victoria School wins the 2023 Vodafone Super Deans Trophy under-18 title. The Matavatucou side thumped the Natabua High School side 24-15 to claim their 24th title in the competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Dawasamu Secondary School in the Raluve competition took home the U18 trophy after beating Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School 14-1.

Tilak High School, the South West Zone Mathematics champion also attained the 2023 Fiji Mathematics Competition national finals title. The school was declared the champion of the competition after coming in at second place in the Year 10 and Year 13 categories and first place in the Year 12 category
