Defects have appeared on the Nalele bridge after structural repairs were completed late last year.

Taveuni district officer Abdul Hakim said they would soon get the defects fixed.

Mr Hakim, while briefing Rural, Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Minister Sakiasi Ditoka, said the bridge beams were recently refurbished.

“The Fiji Roads Authority has set in place plans for road and bridge works on Taveuni for the 2023-2024 financial year,” he said.

“One of these is the repair work on the Nalele bridge, apart from the Soqulu and Solove bridges.

“For the Soqulu bridge, they are waiting for the contractor to estimate the prices for steel plates and install speed bumps.”

Mr Hakim said there were also plans for the tarsealing of the Vuna Village frontage.

“The Bouma bridge will have a new single lane bridge design and will be constructed in the near future,” he said.

He said the contractors were yet to estimate the price of the deck replacement work.
