The Fiji men’s team will be in action today at the FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman. Shaun Corrie’s men will battle USA in its first pool match at inaugural appearance at a World Cup at 9.50 tonight.
The side arrived in Oman on Friday and hit the blocks running with its first training run, getting a feel of the environment they will face come game day.
“We are very passionate people, and we want to let the whole world know that Fiji exists,” Corrie stated in an interview with this newspaper.
Corrie thanked the Government, their families and the corporate bodies that trusted in them and supported their cause for this historic journey.
Meanwhile, the national women’s team lost to Namibia 3-9 in the 9th-12th place playoffs.
Top scorers Tiara Dutta, Divyankar Kumar and Lora Bukalidi netted Fiji’s goals.
The women’s competition ended last night, and the Hector Smith-coached team is expected to return to Fiji soon.
