Former Fiji 7s forward Apenisa Cakaubalavu has put his hands up to represent the nation again at the HSBC World SVNS Series.

The 29-year-old from the village of Naroi on Moala island made his circuit debut at the 2017 Dubai Sevens.

Cakaubalavu played in seven tournaments for Fiji during their title-winning 2018 to 2019 campaign and appeared on four stops of the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season.

He has in total represented Fiji 7s at 13 competitions between 2017- 2020.

Standing at six foot two, he is known for his hard-hitting defence while also possessing speed, strength, and high-quality offloading skills. In an interview with this newspaper, he said he hadn’t met Fiji Airways Fiji 7s coach Ben Gollings since his return from New York.

“If they need me, I am here,” he said.

“I am available if he wants me to try out for the next legs of HSBC series. I’ll be happy to do so.”

The police officer said he was trying to better his game as he hadn’t played rugby for the last four months.

“The Fiji Bitter Wairki 7s marks my return to the sport after four months,” he said.

“My fitness is up to standard.” He said he aimed to be part of the Fiji 7s team for the Paris Olympics this year.

“It’s every young boys’ dream to be part of the national side and to be part of the Olympic team,” he said.

“I want to be part of the team that goes to the Olympics and defend the gold. Making it Fiji’s third consecutive gold. He played for Police Blue at the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s.
