Displaced villagers of Nabavatu knew that all arrangements of relocation to a safe site under the past administration were verbally done.
Village headman Moriti Waqawaqa said they got to realise this after one year of seeing nothing happen.
“We just knew that they only spoke about these issues but they never had any concrete plans regarding us as we heard the same issues being discussed and the same thing happening over and over again,” he said.
“Even though ministers in the Bainimarama administration continuously visited us, we realised that it was more talk than action.
“They only verbally arranged things for us and we confirm that now because we actually see changes happen under the Coalition Government.”
Mr Waqawaqa said meetings with landowning units to supply logs for the construction of the new houses are now happening.
“It was only talked about in the past but now the 11 landowning units are meeting with government officials and work has started,” he said.
“The new site has been confirmed, one mataqali has given logs for at least six houses and the rest are left.
“So yes, we are seeing good things happen under this Government.”
