The Tabadamu 7s team, coached by rugby legend Waisale Serevi, emerged victorious in the cup final at the Rangers Viti Natusara 7s tournament at the Suva Grammar School grounds yesterday.
They defeated a tough Ranger III team 10-7 in the final.
In a hard-fought match, Ranger III scored a try in the first half to 7-0, but Tabadamu rallied in the second half with two tries to secure the win.
Serevi expressed his gratitude to the players for their determination and hard work, noting that some of the players even brought root crops to training to sell them to friends, and was something that pushes the team to go a long way.
“The boys did really well to defeat some good teams in the tournament especially the Wardens Green and Police teams, so proud of the boys,” said Serevi.
“And I like to thank Setefano Cakau for giving me the opportunity (to coach the team), asking me if I’m in Fiji to help out Tabadamu. We trained four days together, focusing on fundamental skills, trying to create an attacking and defence pattern, and I’m so proud of the boys that they really did well,” he added.
Serevi says team will be back at training on Monday, with their sights set on the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament.
He emphasised the team’s commitment to preparation.
