Drua women coach to be named

The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s side is scheduled to relocate to their new Nadi base on January 29, with the announcement of its new head coach expected next week.

This was confirmed by High Performance Manager for Women’s Rugby Alana Thomas.

“We will be moving the players to Nadi on January 28 right now we are sorting out accommodations. The announcement for the Drua squad will be made before the 28th,” Thomas said.

With an ambitious goal of qualifying for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup, the women are gearing up for the Oceania Championship qualifiers.

Thomas emphasised the importance of securing a victory in the qualifiers.

“This year is big year for us, we need to qualify for the 2025 World Cup. Right now, we are preparing for the Oceania Championship qualifiers.

“This is a must win for us, we must win to qualify for the world cup.”

All team staff positions, including the head coach position, were advertised.

Thomas confirmed that applications have been received for the coaching position, and the successful candidate will be announced next week.

“In terms of coaching appointments, a new team of coaches will be formed and will be announced to the media next week.”

The women’s rugby team is dedicated to making their programs successful in the upcoming season and establishing a clear pathway for young girls in the sport.

She expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the Drua, saying: “We’re looking for success for the women’s program, our resources, staff we want to set a good career opportunity that will help provide pathway for the young girls.”
