Netball Fiji will name members of it under-21 extended squad this week that will prepare for the next year’s Oceania qualifiers for the Netball World Youth Cup.

This was confirmed by Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster, who said selectors had named the 32-member squad which was still be scrutinised.

“The names for the side have already been selected, but they are still yet to go through a few processes by our committee before we can release the names of the players,” Koster said.

“We have a process where after the names have been selected, they will go through our committee where they will run checkups and other necessary information about these players.”

Koster said Fiji has already qualified for the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup, and attending the Oceania qualifiers was vital for the under-21 side.

“We are still going to compete at the Oceania qualifiers. This is because we want to get as much game time and experience as possible for our players, so they are well prepared before heading into the World Cup in 2025.”

She added the players for the under-21 side were selected from the National Academy Tournament which took place last week and featured two Australian teams.

Koster added once that those names are released, plans for training camps to be held early next year will get underway.

“After we have released the names, we will then talk about when and where we will be having our camps because we want to start preparing well now. We have more than a year to prepare, so we are going to take advantage of the time that we have now.”
