The terminals at the Labasa and Savusavu airports will soon undergo renovation works for a spacious and modern outlook.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Biman Prasad said this was part of the $400 million Vanua Levu Tourism project funded by the World Bank.

“This funding is for a period of 10 years for the Vanua Levu Tourism Development Project and work will begin with the Savusavu and Labasa airports soon,” he said.

“So a lot of things will happen under this project and that is why this Land Taskforce is critical to bring about developments on Vanua Levu.

“While developments happen, we also will assure tenants and landowners of our ability to work together to resolve issues so everyone will benefit.”

He told farmers, landowners and stakeholders at a consultation in Macuata that landowners needed to get appropriate return from the land and tenants needed to be secure in their leases.

“We need good development, we need cane, rice and cassava farmers and we need investors so we need to grow the economy,” he said.

“And we also need the appropriate mechanism to make our work efficient.”
