Ministry of Local Government permanent secretary Seema Sharma has stressed the importance of adhering to the National Building Code because it is critical for the nation’s growth and development.
Ms Sharma said the Ministry of Works was reviewing the current National Building Code and stressed the need for construction companies and engineers to adhere to it even though it was under review.
“So, apparently the review of the National Building Code is actually led by the Ministry of Works at this point in time and they are progressing well with it,” she said.
Ms Sharma said the ministry recognised the importance of having a minimum standard in terms of building in the country.
“The current building code, even if people just started complying with it, sets a standard because building codes are critical for any growth or development.”
