Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru commended the National Fire Authority (NFA) for conducting trauma counselling for firefighters.
Mr Saukuru said this was to help the firemen deal with traumatic experiences.
“I am advised this has been a very difficult aspect of your role during rescue operations,” he said while speaking at the National Fire Authority Quality Awards last week.
“And the Government understands how hard it is to face all this, all in a day’s work, and then go home to your families while dealing with such traumatic experiences.
“I acknowledge that your professionalism as a career firefighter or fire officer does not allow you to talk about your experiences and this is why you deserve our commendation, our thanks and praise for this very difficult role.”
