School teachers turned up in number at the Fiji Teachers Union Southern Division Sports Meet at the Rishikul Sanatan College grounds in Nasinu yesterday.
Teams from Rewa, Suva and Nasinu competed in soccer, netball, and volleyball.
FTU Southern chairman Rajnesh Lingam said the tournament was being played for a number of reasons.
“This tournament is an annual event which is funded by the Fiji Teachers Union aimed at the physical health and wellbeing of the teachers and secondly getting the members together to take part in sports which brings out the best in players,” Lingam said.
Navua striker and Lami-based schoolteacher Jone Naraba featured for last year’s winners Suva.
“We had some district reps playing for their various teams and the competition was great. Players have given their best,” Lingam added.
“A huge thank you to the three branches for making the tournament a successful one.”
In football, Nasinu dethroned former champions Suva 1-nil in the final.
