Vio Rugby Club, comprised mostly of unemployed youths who double as fishermen to provide for their families, is gearing up for another thrilling weekend at the Fiji Bitter Nacula Yasawa 7s at Churchill Park.
For these young men, rugby is not just a sport; it’s a beacon of hope and a platform to represent the essence of their small island.
As they lace up their boots and don the emblem of Vio Rugby, their spirits are fuelled by the resilience born out of the daily struggles they face as providers for their families.
Team manager Sikeli Ratu, a figure of unwavering support and encouragement, shared the team’s enthusiasm for the upcoming showdown.
“Our boys are always eager to showcase their rugby talents. They’ve been training tirelessly, and they are excited for the weekend,” Ratu exclaimed.
Vio Rugby, having clinched the shield final in the Mataso 7s, is riding a wave of confidence into the Fiji Bitter Nacula 7s.
It’s a journey that transcends the rugby field, where the aspirations of these young players intertwine with the dreams of their families and the hopes of their tight-knit community.
“Our aim is to register ourselves in the top 8 for the Super 7s,” Ratu declared with determination.
The dream of making their mark in the upper echelons of Fijian rugby serves as both motivation and validation for the sacrifices made by each member of the Vio Rugby Club.
Drawn into the challenging Pool G, Vio Rugby is set to face formidable opponents in Paradise Raiwasa, Duibana Rugby, and Namara Blues.
It’s a crucible where the strength of their spirit will be tested against the skill and prowess of other passionate teams.
As the weekend approaches, the anticipation in Vio village is palpable.
Friends and families gather to cheer on their local heroes, not just for the love of the game, but for the pride of seeing their community stand tall on the rugby stage.
For Vio Rugby, it’s more than a tournament; it’s a chance to weave another chapter in the tapestry of their collective story.
A story of determination, unity, and the unyielding spirit of a group of young men who, against all odds, continue to carry the dreams of their island community on their shoulders, ready to conquer the fields and the hearts of all who witness their journey.
