Former Fijian politician, cabinet minister and diplomat Poseci Bune has passed away.

Mr Bune died at the Nadi hospital yesterday.

It is understood he had been battling prostate cancer.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced Mr Bune’s passing in parliament saying the country had lost a loyal son.

Mr Bune had held significant roles, including serving as a cabinet minister in the governments of Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry, late SODELPA leader Laisenia Qarase, and Voreqe Bainimarama.

He also represented Fiji as its permanent representative to the United Nations.

Mr Rabuka reminisced the day he diverted one of his official trips to the Western Division to visit him.

“He sounded strong but I knew he was not well,” the PM said.

The PM conveyed his condolences to Mr Bune’s family, relatives and friends.
