The Fiji men’s basketball side started its 2023 Pacific Games campaign on a high note after thrashing Tahiti 70-45 in its opening match at the Friendship Hall in Honiara yesterday.
Team skipper Joshua Fox said the win had set the momentum for the games, as they would be looking to continue their superb form throughout the tournament.
“Hats off to the boys for the effort and hard work in our first game, they played according to what we have been practicing and I am happy with our performance today, “the USA-based power forward said.
He said defence was their main weapon against Tahiti, where they were able to capitalise on their opponent’s mistakes and score points.
“It’s all about playing hard and playing defence harder, I believe this was one of our factors in the win today.”
Coming to this year’s Pacific Games, Fox said their ambition was to bring gold back to Fiji.
“We have a very good side with us this year, and I have a very good feeling about the boys and the team in bringing back gold to Fiji.”
“We have quite a young side, but they have been stepping up to the occasion and performing very well.”
