The Fiji Men’s soccer team kick started their 2023 Pacific Games campaign on a high, thrashing North Mariana’s 10-nil at the Stiff Academy in Honiara last night.

Team skipper “Wonder Boy” Roy Krishna scored a hat-trick and Ba’s Nabil Begg was also able to find the back of the net in his first international outing.

Fiji’s other goals came from the boots of Navua’s Thomas Dunn, Etonia Dogalau, Gabrielle Matanisiga and a double from Sairusi Nalaubu. Despite the impressive win, Krishna said they had work to do.

“Yes, we’re very happy with the win today, but there’s still a lot of areas we need to work on as we progress into the competition,” he said.

“We need to be more patient with the ball and get control of the game more.”

Krishna, however, praised the side for their performance and for setting the momentum for the tournament.

“I am also happy with the younger players in the squad, like Nabil Begg, for stepping up and rising to the occasion.”

Fiji will face Tahiti in their second match of the games.
