Students have been found in possession of illicit drugs in schools by teachers.
This was highlighted by Save the Children Fiji chief executive officer Shairana Ali in an interview.
When asked whether some students were peddlers, she said it was organised and various people were involved.
Ms Ali said the non-profit organisation was aware the drug trade was thriving in the country.
“We are not aware that children selling food parcels in cities and towns of Fiji were selling illicit drugs,” she said.
“However, we are concerned about children who are on the streets. Parents need to care for and supervise their children at all times.”
She said they had received reports of children below the age of 14 being exposed to hard drugs.
“This is a serious concern and has remained so for quite some time now.”
She said collaborative efforts from all stakeholders were needed to address the issue.
