Fuli names team to Oceania 7s

Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s head coach Saiasi Fuli has named a strong 12-member side to the Oceania Women’s 7s Championship which will also act as an Olympic Games qualifier.

The side is expected to depart Fiji early next week before the two-day tournament kicks off on November 10.

Fuli has named five survivors from the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medal team.

They are Reapi Uluinasau, RaijieliDaveua, Alowesi Nakoci, Viniana Riwai and Lavena Cavuru Uluinasau, nominated for the 2023 World Rugby Women’s Sevens Player of the Year, is back in the side after having played for the Fiji women’s 15s side during the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship in May.

“It’s a massive opportunity for us as a team to prepare well and play in these upcoming Oceania 7s,” Fuli said.

“We are into our preseason phase, and our girls are looking forward to playing in the Oceania 7s and trying to secure a spot for the Paris Olympics. We missed out on the series until the final day in Toulouse, and we as a group had set our goal to rest well, recover, and prepare for the qualification.”
