Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka came under a barrage of criticism on social media and politicians yesterday after he put on hold ministerial portfolio reassignments he announced on October 13 to consider opinions offered by the legal fraternity.
Opposition member of Parliament Jone Usamate said “when you attack the Constitution, you attack democracy in this country”, condemning Mr Rabuka’s failed attempt to reshuffle Cabinet.
Mr Usamate claimed statements from the Prime Minister had been conflicting and full of confusion.
Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry said Mr Rabuka’s decision to reshuffle Cabinet was also questioned and defied by his own ministers and pronounced unconstitutional by the Fiji Law Society.
“It makes one ask whether Mr Rabuka is in the right state of mind to run the country,” Mr Chaudhry said.
Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo said the turmoil in the political sphere was not a sign of weakening and was adamant the Coalition Government was going to be stronger.
