Former Fiji 7s Olympic gold-medal winning coach Ben Ryan is calling for recognition of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians after the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
Ryan, unyielding in his conviction, has urged World Rugby not to overlook Fiji and the exceptional display of talent showcased during the World Cup in France.
“Hopefully this is a beginning of Fiji becoming a powerhouse in rugby not just in 7s but 15s,” Ryan said yesterday.
“No one should just forget about Fiji after the World Cup. They need to continue to help because World Rugby needs Fiji just as much as Fiji needs World Rugby.”
The sentiments were expressed in response to a question raised by The Fiji Times over his impactful tweet on the social media platform ‘X’: “Fiji are at the top table – please stop calling them tier 2.”
Ryan’s words echo the fervent belief in Fiji’s rightful place among the top teams in international rugby, emphasising the need for acknowledgment and sustained assistance from the governing body, World Rugby.
