A joint effort between Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation, Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation (RPW) and the European Union is providing safe drinking water to students and villagers living near Wainiyavu Primary School in Namosi.
The kind donors built the Wainiyavu Primary School Water and Sanitation Project with treatment system which was commissioned last week.
A statement from Vodafone stated the project was made possible through collaboration.
At the ceremony, director of Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation Adriu Vakarau said the project was aligned to the organisation’s shared commitment in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, reducing disaster risk, and fostering resilience for sustainable development.
“Today, as we commission this project, we mark not only a significant step forward for Wainiyavu Primary School but also for the entire Namosi Province. It is a moment of pride as we unveil the first Disability Inclusive Ablution Block in this region,” Mr Vakarau said.
“Water, sanitation, and hygiene are fundamental elements of a healthy and thriving community. By providing clean water and modern sanitation facilities, we are not just addressing immediate needs; we are investing in the long-term well-being and resilience of the community.
“It is inspiring to witness how this project, co-financed by Vaiwai Natural Artesian Waters and Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation, has brought together public and private entities to make a lasting impact on the lives of the people in Namosi.”
Mr Vakarau said the project would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the school’s water committee, parents, villagers, and the unwavering support of stakeholders, including staff of the Ministry of Health, Roko Tui’s Office, and the provincial administrator.
“The commissioning of this project marks the beginning of a new chapter—a chapter where sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience remain at the forefront of our efforts,” he said.
“It is a call to action for continued collaboration, innovation, and community engagement to ensure that the benefits of this project endure for generations to come.
“The successful commissioning of this project today serves as a beacon of inspiration. May it inspire us to continue our shared journey towards sustainable development, resilience, and inclusivity. Together, let us build a future where every community, no matter how remote, has the tools and resources to thrive.”
