The Ba football side is a team to watch in the 2023 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) which kicks-off next Tuesday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
The Asif Khan-coached side did not lose any of their remaining seven Digicel Fiji Premier League (DFPL) matches when the regular season concluded last month.
The three wins and four draws in those seven matches propelled the Men-in-Black to a fifth spot finish in the DFPL points table.
“We have started our preparations for the IDC from last week and we are hoping for a good result,” he said.
Khan said the boys are positive and aware of the expectations from the district.
“It is all about team work and team bonding. We have been motivating them in terms of their mental preparations with respect to their training and fitness.
“We are not taking any of our pool opponents lightly as they would all come with a winning mentality for the top competition.”
He said they were in a ‘tough’ pool having grouped against DFPL champions Lautoka, Battle of Giants (BOG) winners Labasa and an ever-improving Tailevu Naitasiri.
“They have been doing well in terms of their competition in the DFPL. Our first game against Tailevu Naitasiri is a game to watch as they play a very well structured game.
“Since I took charge of the team, we have not lost a single game in the DFPL, we have either won or drawn.”
Khan says it takes time to build a good team and to also develop that mutual healthy relationship between a coach and the players.
“We want to keep the momentum going with how we have performed from our last few games in DFPL,” he said.
Suva is the defending IDC champions after beating Navua four-nil in the final last year.
