The Fiji Bulikula Women’s Rugby League team officially kick started their training session on Monday as they prepare to compete at the Pacific Championship in Papua New Guinea later this month.
Bulikula head coach Joe Dakuitoga says Monday’s training sessions were all about rebuilding and familiarising among the players, after getting together as a national side after a long time.
“The last time the girls played was back in 2019, where they historically defeated powerhouse, Papua New Guinea, 28-0.
“So, their training session on Monday was just like a team run, just so the players can just familiarise themselves with each other,” the former Fiji Bati head coach said.
The Bulikula side face an uphill battle on October 15 when they play Samoa, as they prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers next year.
“At the moment, we only have our local based players training here in Fiji while our overseas-based players will be training in Australia.”
Meanwhile, Fiji National Rugby League is still yet to announce the final squad of the Bulikula.
“I think there’s still a few issues with eligibility of some of our overseas-based players, but we will be announcing the names shortly.”
The squad is set to leave for Papua New Guinea on Sunday.
