The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
This is a quote by the United States of America former First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt that best describes students that turned up in numbers for the Fiji National University’s Semester II orientation week this month.
Eager to learn and dream big, the Fiji National University welcomed new and current students back into its campuses around the country.
The orientation sessions according to the university had been conducted at Naduna campus, the Fiji Maritime Academy, Nasinu, Namaka, Natabua, Nasese and Ba campus.
Ba Campus second-year student, Nahid Shah according to an FNU statement said he was glad to be back at the campus for another semester.
The Raviravi, Ba lad is currently pursuing his Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 5).
“I chose to study OHS because safety in the workplace is crucial for protecting workers and preventing accidents,” he said.
“I want to make a positive impact, ensuring every worker returns home safely while promoting a healthy work environment and by ensuring the well-being of workers and also creating a safer environment for everyone.”
The 20-year-old said his journey so far as a student has been exciting, as he has gained valuable knowledge and skills to excel in his chosen field of study.
“I joined FNU because it offered a comprehensive Trade Diploma in OHS program, renowned for its practical approach and industry relevance,” he said.
“Once I graduate, I plan to work as an OHS specialist, collaborating with organisations to implement effective safety measures, conduct risk assessments, and create awareness campaigns.
“My ultimate goal is to contribute to reducing workplace accidents and improving overall safety standards within industries.”
Head of the Ba campus, Niraj Dharmendra as highlighted in the university statement classed the orientation days as one of the most vital events of the FNU’s academic calendar.
“Your arrival at the FNU marks a new chapter in your life and this chapter may be different from others,” he said told the students.
“FNU puts students at the centre of everything it does; your experiences at the FNU Ba campus will allow you to learn new things, acquire new knowledge, develop your skills and enhance your personal attributes in profound ways that will equip you for the rest of your life.”
