The Good shepherd

THE Bible text “the Good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” is what inspired 73-year-old church evangelist Apete Rokotuiwai for the 50 years of his service to the Nausori Church.

Mr Rokotuiwai is the only surviving pioneer of the church that was first established in 1964.

He took time to reflect on the long journey during the church’s 50 years celebration yesterday.

He said each pioneer of the church was assigned roles and responsibilities to play when they were building the church.

His was part of the outreach ministry to primary school students and youths.

“That’s what I’ve been doing for the past 50 years and I’m still doing it now.

“I love ministering to young people and it gives me so much joy and happiness when children submit and surrender their life to the Lord,” Mr Rokotuiwai said.

He said he never regretted his decision to take up God’s work.

“Most of my teachings are based from the Bible and I love visiting different communities especially primary schools.”

Mr Rokotuiwai said there were times when he wanted to give up but he was always inspired by his favourite text.

“Everybody goes through a lot of difficulties and challenges in life and it’s normal.

“Those obstacles make us strong and mould us to be someone God wants us to become,” Mr Rokotuiwai said.
